So I haven’t been fond of Tori Amos’ latest effort or all the personalities and blogs to match. But this video from her latest tour is actually pretty interesting. Granted, she is singing an old song, “Cruel,” but watching her make funny poses and gyrate and model for us in her blond bob wig is pretty fun and I wouldn’t mind seeing her live again, I think. Anyway here’s the clip:

I found recently this pretty useful blog called Puddlegum, “an indie music journal.” While perusing through its archives of music news and reviews, I came across two musicians that were intriguing. Both are one-man bands with odd “professional names” and both are pretty young. Which always makes me feel like I’ve been jacking off for ten years instead of being amazingly productive. Which is of couse patently untrue. But still…

I must be feeling video-happy, but this is a great quality video of Joanna Newsom singing ‘Cosmia’ with the band she tours with. I saw them at the Aladdin Theater earlier this year and it was one of the most beautiful concerts I’ve ever been to:

After a whirlwind weekend trip with my sister, I’m exhausted. We ate so much food you’ll have to roll me out of here! Anyway, I left Barbra at home and used the stero on the White Mustang convertible my sister ended up renting, a car we nicknamed “Mary 7.” Here are a few gentleman I listened to on our trip:

I love a lady with a deep, throaty voice. Grave, sensual, a touch of humor. I especially enjoy when they have a range and don’t need to stay way down in the throat. There are two ladies that are currently in heavy rotation on Barbra, my iPod, that fit the bill. In addition to their lovely vocal talents, both artists are classically trained musicians who transpose that traditional background into unique, stirring songs that are both accessible and original. Here’s a quick little rundown:
